A bit of background
I remember when I was about 13 years of age living in Wurtulla, and watching the development of the canal front blocks there. I told my father at the time he should buy a couple of those blocks! His reply was he we couldn’t afford it because at $28,000 they were a lot of money!

He may have been right, but then again, he may have been like many people I meet and just didn’t have the knowledge as to how it could be done.
Years later I came to realise it was probably the later, fear through lack of knowledge stopped him in his tracks. Since becoming a father myself I realised I wanted to be able to provide for my children, my wife and myself in retirement, I didn’t want to work for 50 years and retire on the pension.
Being the first in my family to invest I had my doubters, which led to my own self-doubt, but it didn’t stop me; so I can relate to those at the beginning of their journey who are feeling the same way.
It took 2 years of my own research and 6 months convincing my wife it was a good idea before we started investing!
What’s your property investing experience?
It wasn’t until about 2010, (after years of making our own mistakes, procrastination and no plan) that we decided ‘if we are going to do this we need to do it right, we need a plan!’
A few years on we are continuing to build on our portfolio and based on our plan, have achieved our predetermined goals and continue to hold and manage our existing portfolio.
Why do you love what you do?
Quite simply I have seen the benefits of investing in property first hand through my own investing experience and that of others. I love being in the position to be able to help others achieve their investing goals, it started with helping friends and colleagues begin their investment journey and has continued on through my work as a property coach.

From a very early age I remember being surrounded by talk of property, whether it be building a new house for the family or learning about how to invest in property from both my mother and father.

Even as a child I remember emulating the actions of my parents by drafting house designs and plans from scratch and designing what I considered to be my ‘dream home’.
In 1988 our family moved into our ‘dream’ family home, a reasonably large 5 bedrooms plus study home on a 2000 sqm block that had cost an astonishing $88,000 to build on top of the $36,000 for the b lock of land! It seemed a huge step from their first property purchase 15 years earlier for $7000 in a rural town in NSW! Fast forwar d 20 years from that date in 1988 to 2008 and my father subdivided the block and on sold the house. In the past 12 months the value of the house is circa $850,000 and the subdivided block yet to be built on cir ca $480,000! These early years obviously had a positive impact on my view of property and it is something I have enjoyed being involved in ever since.
What’s your property investing experience?
I have made great capital gains from buying and renovating properties and using my own handyman skills and time and then on selling the property usually 6-12 months later.
About a decade ago when one of my brand new properties that I had purchased had grown more in value and given me a larger net return then the cleverly constructed renovation I had just completed I had an ‘uh huh’ moment and since then I have focussed on building a balanced portfolio by strategically acquiring properties in new and existing areas taking advantage of existing ECB’s (established capital benchmarks) in order to manufacture growth in my property portfolio allowing me to duplicate the process sooner in order to leverage the compound growth.

My experience in sales extends back to 1999 and I have a true passion for property.
